Saugeen Shores Winterhawks

While the core of last year’s team will return, there are plenty of new faces on this year’s edition of the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks. 

New players this year include, defencemen Jase Botting, Derek Skinner and Andrew Fry along with forwards Curtis Johnston, Marc Roedger, Tyler Smith, Brian Martin, Bryan Kazarian, Ryan Fry and Kevin Beirnes. Of the new players, Johnston, Botting, Roedger, Smith and Martin all hail from Saugeen Shores. Kazarian and Andrew Fry are from Owen Sound while Skinner and Ryan Fry are Brockton residents. Beirnes calls Sauble Beach home. 

Three of the new players, Ryan Fry, Skinner and Johnston are graduates of theWalkerton Hawks Jr C team. Johnston was the league MVP and top scorer on the Hawks while Skinner was voted top defenceman in the league. Kazarian is a former Owen Sound Plater and Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk while Smith, Beirnes and Andrew Fry are all former Owen Sound Jr B Greys. Martin is also a former Junior B player with the Elmira Sugar Kings while Botting played Jr. A with the now defunct Niagara Falls Thunder. Roedger played profesionally in Germany last season. 

Returning from last season’s team, which finished first overall in the WOAA Senior A North Division are forwards; Darryl McKinnon, Ryan Dudgeon, Rob Grant, Chad Little, Brent MacDermid, Bill Monkman, Tim Hammell, Jason Hutchinson, Darryl Henderson, Matt Turcotte, Craig Johnston and Al Roach.

Back on defence are; Greg Thede, Ryan Crombeen, Adam Weir, Kirk Paddon, Josh Jackson and Steve Currie.

The Winterhawks are also pleased to announce Scott Jamieson as the team’s new General Manager. Jamieson is a former player with the original Winterhawks and a former General Manager of the Medicine Hat Blue Jays. 

With the team’s home opener slated for Oct. 25, the ‘Hawks remind fans that Founders Club membership are being offered for $75 per member this season. Membership in the Founders Club allows fans admittance to all regular season home games, recognition on the team’s website, regular updates on what’s happening with the team and preferred admittance privileges. Memberships are available Gord’s Pro Shop at The Plex. The hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Sundays from Noon until 5 p.m.
